Hi everyone, I'm Lisa and am new to this forum.
I am a Mum of two children and my nearly 3 year old has just started the diagnosis progress.
My daughter can't talk and has made no progress (if anything regressed a little) and is not great socially. She has a special friend who she will be comfortable with in their company but more then one peer or even one other adult and she won't join in, she cries and will sit by herself under tables/chairs or does her classic laying on the floor and covers her eyes as if to be asleep.
As a routine she is so unbelievably stuck, on hospital days, parties, holidays or anything 'new' are a real challenge, her sensory behavior (which I'll explain in a moment) goes into overdrive, but she freaks out daily over the smallest of things, such as not doing her coat up right, not putting the correct shoe on first, new clothes, different food for breakfast etc etc. Oh and the weather is another huge issue, loud cold rain really upsets her.
As a sensory issue she for the past 12-14 months has smeared her poo from her nappy on herself and the walls/furniture, she does the same with her spit, headbutts the floor for no reason, smacks herself, bites her fingers and always has to have something flapping infront of her face to focus on.
The HV and our GP were convinced she needed looking at but waited till she was 2.5 and the consutlant at the hospital referred us straight away. We now have to see a physiotherapist (her balance is also shocking and has no awareness of thing around her), speech therapist, neurologist and said we'd then see an autistic specialist at our local Children's Hospital.
The speech therapist we saw yesterday said she didn't have some basic autistic traits like she would look at you in the eye and although she can't talk she could make some interaction with the therapist. She then said she had some very obvious sensory issues but girls were hard to diagnose.
I'm so confused now! We are always at hospitals as my daughter was born with a tumour on her kidney so she's always having check up's, she's being investigated for epilepsy, it's always one thing after another!
