Hello
my name (or a name I just made up earlier) is Plectrum.
I've been diagnosed with ASD as an adult.
Hoping to make some friends here and try being myself a bit more. What is it like ? is it a friendly place?
- any tips from existing users?
I get very distracted when I see odd things or patterns in things and forget what I was supposed to be doing, whether it's work or putting out the rubbish
Funnily enough, I started playing the guitar because I heard patterns in music due to synaesthesia and I just needed to play the sounds else my head would have exploded
That’s like when I look at a clock and it’s always a specific time. I can’t believe people can look at 12 hour clocks on walls and tell the time in 2 seconds. It takes me at least 5 to identify where the hands are pointing. Needless to say motor skills are not my strong point either.
I also wanted to learn the guitar but I got frustrated and didn’t have the patience. I just mess around with it for fun now. It was a temporary obsession one could say.
i just got distracted by all the 22s in this thread 2 minutes ago
I used to dabble a little, no real aptitude or talent for it sadly.
Hello Leetom, good you are joining in already. A lot of people are around to give tips about the assessment process and whatever else life throws at us.
Yes, on and off. I have phases when I can't put it down, and phases when I can't pick it up. I'm not that skillful. I just like the word plectrum, and I try not to swallow them, lol.
How about you?
Greeting Plectrum. I'm guessing with that name you probably play guitar?
Hey there plectrum. I’m also new to all this. I’m currently waiting for an ASD assessment. Not sure what the process would involve so it’s a bit anxiety inducing. It’s really relieving to see people on here who get me you know. It seems like a friendly place.
Thank you! Nice to meet you
And you :)
Hi Lora, thanks, nice meeting you

Hello Plectrum,
I've just joined so you beat me to it!
Hello and welcome to the community.

Plectrum > Welcome to the national autistic society. I do not think you will regret joining here. It is a warm and friendly environment with some intriguing people to meet.
As for tips I agree with Bagpuss. Look around and interact inside the community and I think you will learn a lot from some of the people here.
Hello Bagpuss, thankyou, I remember watching Bagpuss on TV.
