New

Hi everyone.

I’m new to the website after only been diagnosed last week at 35 years old. I’m based in Derbyshire (between Derby and Chesterfield) and I cant seem to find a lot of help/support/groups in the area so I welcome all help and advice anyone might have.

  • As van example I have googled Alfreton (Your midway point) Citizens Advice Bureau as snipped in here , but you canput the name of your town and Say community centres,- just to see what is available, I can see there is a lot available in Alferton even charities, try usingyour hobbies, and whatever pleases you.put in your village and then work outward.

    Good luck

  • Thank you for the link but, unfortunately, there is nothing near to my location, the nearest group is 2 or 3 hours away on public transport.

  • Hi ,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining us! You may find the following link to the social groups directory from the NAS website of use:

    https://www.autism.org.uk/services/community/group/england.aspx

I hope you're able to find a group that suits your location.

    All the best,

    ChloeMod.

  • It does seem very thin ,my end!  also, what is available isnt always straight forward....ie  miles away(which isnt anyones fault) long waiting lists and generally told what we may already know......

Im spending alot of time on YOUTUBE to self learn...but i am seeking CBT through the nhs.

  • I’m waiting for the report from the assessment, which will contain websites and group information but this area seems to lack anything from what I can gather through searching the internet

  • Im in Bedfordshire. Diagnose last June and had no assistance whatsoever..

Did your assessment centre not give you any pointers to help groups?...I had that...but its not always as simple as it first appears and long waiting lists...

For me at present , its a case of Youtube videos etc and books and sometimes coming on here...
