Phil and Agata new to the community

Hello, looking forward to meeting you all and learning from your experiences. We are parents to two girls 4 and 2, our 4 year old had diagnosis of ASD in October, it has taken a while to come to terms with the diagnosis even though we always really knew this news was coming.

Feels like we have huge and imminent decisions to make about her future educationally and socially and I'm sure that we would gain perspective from this community.

She's loving school and clearly benefits from it but there are questions being raised now about the change from reception which is play/pupil lead (she adores it) to lesson/teacher lead in Year 1 (school feel this will be too challenging)

The school seems to take the view that a school with bespoke amenities, speech and language therapy & smaller classes will be best for her but we are keen to keep her in a mainstream environment where we can. We obviously want to make the right decision but there seems to be no choice without significant compromise. Their fears are based around her ability to maintain focus and the disruption that will go along with this.

We have applied for EHCP funding and await decision.

Starting out on this journey and will appreciate your thoughts and support.
