Hello :)

Hi. My 3 yr old boy was diagnosed as being on the Autistic Spectrum last week.

I'm releaved i finally have a reason for why he is like he is,its easier to say 'he has autism' than to feel stumped because i don't know why he behaves the way he does.

It's also a bit confusing because i don't know alot about it, but it is what it is and we're going to have to get on with it.

I've known from birth that he was different, he cried for a solid hour after he was born and nothing soothed him, all clicks into place when i look back.

He's a cheerful chappy most of the time, happy doing his own thing, we have occassions when he throws tantrums or hes just not in the mood to be nice, but so far we've coped with it.

He has barely any speech, but he will sing a song and use alot of words, just won't 'speak' them.

Thats just a few of the basics, there is alot more to him but i don't want to waffle to much.

Looking forward to sharing experiences and stories with you all :)

  • hi - welcome to the site.  There's loads of info, so that will help you understand more about how autism affects your child as an individual.  I wish there'd been a site like this when my son was 1st diagnosed.  I knew my son was different from about 3 weeks old.  He would cry and cry and nothing would soothe him.  He cheered up as the months went by and he reached physical milestones.  He didn't speak until he was 5 but understood certain words and phrases and was always a practica problem solver.  Just chip in when you want to.  bw
