Thread 3: Achievements of the Man of Steel (Part Three of Thread 1: Getting to Know the Man of Steel)

I'm sure before you go onto reading this thread, you will probably imagine that you are just going to see a list of my achievements and goals I have met etc. If that is what you are thinking, you are already wrong as you have already read a paragraph which introduces this thread and why it is here. The list comes later. Although, if you haven't already done so, you may wish to read Thread 2: Hobbies/Interests of the Man of Steel (Part Two of Thread 1: Getting to Know the Man of Steel), as this one like the last one does follow on from the previous thread.

Before we begin, there a couple of questions you may wish to have answers to thank you:

Q. What is the point of this thread, you are not somebody who is going to turn out as being 'full of ego' are you?

A. The point of this thread is not to impress or to show how much I really like myself amongst others. As with the previous two threads I have produced and all others I shall do in the future, they are simply to inspire. Please keep this and the below as I said in Thread 1: Getting to know the Man of Steel in mind:

“My goal in life is to inform and aid those with difficulties to enjoy life and to also inform how successful you can be with a condition either the same, similar or different to my own.”

And with the above in mind, I surely hope that this thread I have produced will suceed in doing so.

Q. Apart from inspiring, what other goals do you set out to achieve?

A. This changes frequently (not cancelling out the ones I already have) but the big one is really to make a difference to people's lives regardless of who they are, so whether they have Autism, Asperger's, or anything other such as mental health difficulties. I am always somebody who is open to debates/questions so if you have anything you want to discuss, please do so.

Q. Rather than going out there and doing it, why do you 'broadcast' it all before doing so and tell everybody the results later?

A. A good question with a good answer. As part of my condition 'Autism' I have and have had various others such as confidence issues, Asperger's syndrome (mildly), but most importantly a moderate learning difficulty. On this occasion within this answer, I am going to do something that I never usually like myself or others to do, which is to compare yourself with others. I understand that this could potentially contradict with what I have said previously back in thread 2

"At the end of the day, the fact you have taken an interest in things, and have tried them – IS ALL THAT MATTERS."

But. The whole point of doing this, is to as a result of realising that my confidence and character (in the way I speak and come across etc.) amongst others is not terrible but not as strong (if you like), is to improve. If I tell everybody how I am feeling and what I set out to do on the web, I am confident that I will improve my confidence in a matter of days (as I already have) not to forget, grammar and spelling (which is already excellent anyway). I would therefore encourage others to believe in themselves by following similar principles to my own.

They are the main questions I feel you would have in mind right now, but I am ALWAYS open to more, and more. So please ask!

Okay, so now that I have explained the point of this thread, I think as promised - it is about time I state some of my achievements:

My confidence has increased highly. Back in the days, of school, and college - I always had a teaching assistant next to me. This was due to not only my condition, but also my learning difficulty. Since then, I have come on "leaps and bounds" - as my Dad particularly likes to say. For instance, by sitting here now, telling you  and attempting to inspire you all about this, I feel shows a high amount of confidence I have gained since back in the days where I was picked on at school. As a result of my confidence increasing, I have also many other achievements to date:

1. Improved spelling and grammar

2. Increased motivation to communicate and cooperate

3. Developed a wider range of interests to support my character in social situations (but stuck to being my same old usual self, which is very important for everyone!)

4. Academics:

- Certificate holder of the equivalent of 12 A* - C grades at GCSE level

- Certificate holder of the equivalent of 3 A grades at A level (Triple Grade Distinction)

- Taking out personal research to academically broaden my horizons. Once upon a time, I could not script a basic HTML web page, I now have a very good understanding of HTML and a basic understanding of CSS and thus can script web pages from scratch without relying on such software packages as Adobe Dreamweaver etc. And, I was asked to demonstrate an understanding of these back in my National Diploma A level course which I had difficulty in doing - although it did not stop me achieving my DDD grade overall!

5. Fitness:

- Achieved the following for the Petts Wood 10k Race Event:

TIMINGS:

- GUN TIME: 00:50:30

(The time it took me to complete the course as soon as the race began - this includes running up to the start line and onwards to complete the entire 10k race)

- CHIP TIME: 00:48:43

(The time it took me to complete the course from the start line to the finish line)

POSITIONINGS (OUT OF 608):

- GUN POSITION: 171

(The position determined for me from the start of the race - again, this includes running up to the start line and onwards to complete the entire 10K race)

- CHIP POSITION: 147

(The position determined for me from the start line to the finish line)

- To date (in terms of endurance, I have achieved the following):

6. Employment/education. At the end of June 2012, I began to work on  a casual basis for Furniture Village (the store local to me). All employees including the managers (general and store managers) were very friendly, and it then inspired me to leave college and look for work (get on the working ladder). The main manager himself was extremely inspiring and friendly. The day I told him I had such a condition, he thought it was extremely commendable that I was able to tell him in a face to face situation (as I did). "I take my hat off to you" - he said. He continued to support me throughout my casual work and still does today when I see him as well as my old fellow employees.

Sadly, my contract came to an end at the beginning of September. I began my course in Electronics which did not work out. I did not allow the same thing to happen as last year (turn miserable and demotivated), I put my foot down right away, looked for and found another course which turned out to be virtually the same as the one I most recently did but with a different exam board and signed on secretively temporarily. From the inspiration I received from my previous manager, I went out and looked for a job, and today I have got that particular one as an ICT Technician at my old Primary School, Midfield. About 2 or 3 working days later, it turned out that I received an interview as I received a phone call from the school, and on that same day as the interview about an hour after it, I received a phone call asking me to have one of my parents in the room at the same time which was to inform me of my success. The interviewers after hiring me made various statements such as below:

- You were by far definitely the best candidate

- You are highly entrepreneurial

- You are very committed etc.

- And of course, "Congratulations!"

Please now allow me to conclude. I have many more achievements but I feel these are the most significant to myself as a person right now.

It just shows what you can set out to and/or achieve regardless of who you are. Please feel free to use me as an example, as this is the whole point of this. I want to come across as that inspiring person and eventually I will try and write a book. I am really happy about who I am. Not because of what I have achieved, but am happy because of the way I can relate to things. Do not forget, that it is my goal to inspire ANYONE regardless of who they are to make people believe in themselves in the same way as I do.

I hope from what I have put together in this thread, I will have succeeded in doing so.

Many thanks indeed for reading my final introductory thread. From now on, we will be talking about my progress throughout my family of threads and indeed debateful topics of matter, which I hope to come onto in the New Year (once I have settled into my new job).

Thanks again.

  • Hello MrsP,

Thank you and I have many things to inform people of. I have given myself the duty to inspire people, whether they have Autism, Asperger's or anything else/not necessarily a condition or disability. Smile

Thank you, I feel that is very important for anyone to realise, which is actually one of the main points of this thread to show people how successful you can be regardless of who you are and to later be proud of who you are and not just your achievements!

Thanks again for reading my final introductory thread. Wink

  • WElcome and WOW thats alot of information to process :)

one thing i will say though is its lovely to hear from someone who has some confidence in his achievements and abilities :)
