Introduction

Hello all,

Thought I had better post an introduction.

I'm 26 and have recently been diagnosed with ASD. I have a Partner and a 10 month old boy which mean the world to me (all be it I struggle to show her that all the time)

I thought I would join to show that there are people with autism living "normal" lives...

I hold a full time job which I chose just for the purpose of challenging myself (I work in a call center!?!?!) over the years I have gained enough insight to hold what somebody would call a reasonable conversation even getting to the point where I am slowly starting to understand things like sarcasm...

I am highly intellegent, yet failed the 1st year of university twice... ask me to strip an engine and id have no problem.. ask me to start a conversation and youve got no chance. even the mrs calls me the ikea king (apparently im the most useful person to have around when you buy something from ikea)

Im always open to any questions people may have so feel free to ask away Smile

Thanks

Kyle

  • Thanks,

Granted the calls I deal with are pretty structured (debt management for a mortgage company) so all follow the same pattern, only have to deal with occasions of straying from the usual... plus i have a very understanding manager who doesnt put pressure on me to be social with the rest of the team, but they all know my issues so dont put pressure on me either... i do try to make some conversation because I know it will help me gain more social skills which i lack

  • hi - welcome to the site.  I'm not on the spectrum - my son is.  I would find it very difficult to work in a call centre.  I think most of us could say which jobs we would find difficult to do, either because we weren't suited because of our personality and/or our level of intelligence or skills.  You sound like a versatile person with many useful skills and a nice family.  These are the things most of us aspire to.  Thank you for posting.  best wishes.
