Newbie

Hi there , Bounce was dx in June and now still waiting for the ball to roll with the help he is supposed to be getting, he is not in school f/t has Ep told me friday, school cant deal with his behaviour even though its autism related. They have questioned his dx several times since june and seem to be the only ones having problems with it.

I am a single mom of 7 boys, 5 of them have s/n. Every day is a challenge but wouldnt have it any different :)

  • Wow i can understand your choice of nickname! It might be that the can't get the funding to pay for the TA until the statement is sorted out which is why they keep asking you about it, rather than them questioning his diagnosis.

  • hi again - they may not act on support for your son until the final statement is available.  However, the school, from what you say, doesn't fill me with confidence at all.  It's so important, as you know, to have the right staff (well trained in autism) in the right environment.  Until that's achieved things won't work out.  I hope things improve soon.  bw

  • hi crystal12, Bounce is in mainstream school, we are awaiting for his draft statement at the moment.  I dont seem to be getting anywere with the school at all. Feel like I am talking to a brick wall.

They did mention last week that they were going to employ a t/a for him so he can go full time but i doubt that will happen has they keep asking about his draft statement and have told me friday that he will continue to be prt-time for another 4 weeks till its reviewed again.

There many excuses about Bounce are ' he cant and wont play with or along others' , 'he cant or wont sit with others during carpet time', 'he escapes the class room, many times this has happened and have only been informed of it happening last week (been going on for a few weeks!!!).

I dont know what they expect from him, they know all the answers to it all has he was in nursery their. Have had to call his paed again!!! because they keep questioning whether he has been diagnosed with ASD

  • hi tiredeyes - what sort of school is your son in?  If he's got a sw I'd be getting in touch about the school.  There's info on the nas site about education etc + there's a site called ipsea which I understand can be useful.
