Hello all

Just thought i would leave a message introducing myself, im 23 from cardiff, wales.

I was dignosed with aspergers at about age 10

I found this site and figured it would be good to get to know the community that help/advise people like myself or family/friends with similar conditions and would like to be a part of this and help in any way i can with the experience i have living with my condition, i look forward to meeting and chatting to new people.

  • i Angelos.... Great to meet you.  I feel you are being positive about this, and that is great.  I myself,  consider my autism as an attribute, not a hinderence.  I honestly think this is the best way to go.

  • Hi Angelos ("angel" in Greek) :-)  I know what you mean by acting, I feel like I'm wearing a mask when I'm in social situations.  I think that knowing you have it early on, before puberty is an advantage because you know what your differences are and can try and work round them and you don't have the frustration of not knowing why you don't fit in at school.

  • I wouldn't say i hate having it, just found it difficult at times but thats probably because even after being diagnosed i got no information about the condition other than its going to be alot harder for u to fit in when you get to school and make friends, so this was a bummer but after a while i got use to it, at the end of the day you got to be proud of who you are no matter what may come your way.

As much as it may seam like throwing someone in the deep end unless they have a special interest in it i found the best way i overcame the social awkwardness was acting, granted being on stage in front of a large group could be a neurotypical worst nightmare none the less someone who is shy.

From my interest in writing i enjoyed stories and i transferred that over to acting and when you work closely with a group of people day in day out and when the day comes you know when you set on that stage its up to you to not let the rest of the cast down or yourself after working so hard, i would say it was the best thing that helped me.

  • just wanted to reply to you to say hi and how i m sad to hear you hate living with aspergers as a parent of 3 my oldest is now 12 nearly 13 and we have discovered he has aspergers traits but since finding this out it has given us hope in prepaing him for when he is 23 can i ask what you hate ?
