Mum to 15 year old boy with Aspergers, from Luton

Hi, I am Mum to a 15 year old boy who was diagnosed with high-level Aspergers in January this year.  I wondered if there are any parents with teengers with AS or with a child who was diagnosed very late on. The support groups I have attended seem to deal with younger children and, not to be too blunt, I need some support!!

Look forward to hearing....

  • Support for teenagers with high-functioning AS is very much hit and miss depending on where you live. Most local support groups are biased towards younger children or traditional autism including speech and language difficulties. The local NAS were not very helpful towards me and my family when I was a teenager as they just weren't geared towards people who could do A Level maths and program microcontrollers in C at the age of 15. I was home educated at the time which complicated matters further because the NAS was geared towards delivering services through schools. Thankfully I managed to find support from various sources back then.
