Hello! From Cambodia

Hi everyone.

I'm a newly qualified Speech and Language therapist working out in Cambodia. In the orphanage, I am working alongside another newly qualified SLT in a class of Autistic people aged from 11 - 30. Any advise on communicating and working with this age group would be much appreciated! All of them are non verbal and most are self-stimulating and do not respond to structured activities.

I'm mainly looking for some pointers on sensory-based activities.

Thank you so much!

Sarah

  • hey there sarah, very cool and admirable job you choose to do

i cant possibly help you here, your the qualified one Cool im just a personwith an autistic partner, no degrees in it or anything and i dont have any experience with autistic kids, so cant help with that age groupFrown

whati can say is i think you are brilliant for what you are doing, and i think you will be more than capable of knowing what to do without any of us non expertised types chipping in Laughing

its something you will have to feel out and learn as you go,each individual involved and their needs, and i think you will do that fine
