  • hi there rosieSmile

i dont have kids, but my partner has aspergers so i know a bit about caring for and coping with autistic needs

if your a complete n ewbie to autism, i will start with 2 important issues

    1,

they have a lot of issues with sensitivity to sound/lights/touch etc, so its a good place to start , if they get upset or frustrated you can look at the noises/lights/what they are wearing/eating/drinking

it think it should probably help a lot to know that at the begining

    and 2,

this is not a psychological issue, it is a biological issue, meaning the autistic brain works differently to the neurotypical brain (thats me and you and non autistics, aka nt)

a famous autistic always says "different not less" its important to know that, just because their brain is wired a bit differently doesnt make them any less a person or worth love or attention

i will give you one last wee bit of info,

i have seen a few people who have been told their childs life is now somehow limited due to having autism, it doesnt necesarily mean that at all, temple grandin was quite severely autistic and she made a lot of her life, at the time people thought autism was more like severe mental 'retardation' rather than just a different way of thinking

anyone who tells you, or anyone else, their childs life is now limited, doesnt know what they are talking about, its up to you, your family and your kids to make your lives, not a diagnosis from someone who only sees the worst in it

wil it be easy, no probably not, but your child can easily have a good life suitible for them if they are given the chance to learn who THEY are and how things work for THEM
