Things that are good to be done when upon this NAS Forum, Thanks

Yes, I know that I have begun a few Threads lately, and people want to ignore them (because of myself!?)... It does not matter that this Thread has no replies. Extra advice Posted is useful of course, however.

I am only Posting a sort of message here, Thank You all. (This is a sort of FYI-Thread, for the plenty of people who do not know.)

1 - IF YOU SEE A POST WHICH YOU LIKE, THEN PLEASE VOTE IT UP / UPVOTE IT.

There are two arrows below a Post. Touch the UP arrow, until the number of "LIKES" goes up by one, and the Arrow turns Red/Pink. Then, do not touch it again, else the "Vote"-Number shall go down again. Always pay attention to this.

...People appreciate being "UpVoted" here.

2 - IF YOU REALLY LIKE A POST, THEN UPVOTE IT AND (IF YOU CAN) POST A REPLY.

...We honestly do not mind how long or short a Reply is, in this Forum. After an UpVote, a Reply may simply be: "Yes.", or "Thank You", or "I agree with part of that.". Any Reply at all (which is not a "rude word"!)

...People appreciate acknowledgment here, no matter how small.

(Editing a Reply is done via checking the "MORE"  Word beneath your own Post, and then the Post may be Edited or Deleted.)

4 - IF A POST OR THREAD SEEMS TO BREAK ANY OF THE COMMUNITY RULES, NAS SAYS TO "REPORT AS ABUSIVE".

...If this Thread continues, I would discuss this, and what happens to "Deleted Users"... I could easily have been one of these myself early on!

That is all for now. Yes, I missed out a Number 3., I know that. Again I say that Replies are not necessary and this is FYI (For Your Information).

Edit: I have Edited Number 4. Sorry for my confusion, before.

  • It wouldl have to be quite an extreme post for me to ''vote down'.  I do disagree with posts at times but recognise that the poster is writing in good faith and with proper conviction.  However, bigoted remarks should be reported as abusive, and I have reported posts to the admins in this way on occasion.

I do vote up posts when they are useful and well infomed and add to the conversation.   However, I am sure it is 'too easy' to vote inadvertantly and sometimes a post can be disliked/liked by mistake.

I remember a comment in the letters page of a music publication many years ago.  It said 'We reserve the right to edit letters we like and ignore boring ones'.  And while not wanting to ever suggest there are boring posts here, I think we should reserve the right not to say something if we have nothing useful to add.  A post with umpty 'I agree' comments would add nothing to the original comment.  And I don't really agree with the remark in 'Bambi' where one of the creatures of the forest is told that if they have nothing good to say don't say it.  We should have the right to disagree with someone and say we disagree.  And as someone autistic I know how difficult it can be to be diplomatic, but if we do disagree we should do so constructively.

I do however think this online forum is an invaluable resource.  It also gives very good practice in communicating with others and using our knowledge and experience to help others as well as to share problems with others (a probem shared being a problem halved).

  • Thank You, TrainSpotter. And in my also acknowledging DragonCat16 again... as it is put like this, I understand and so I shall write a bit more about it.

True enough, "Umpty I agrees" would be a bit grating. Two things about this. Perhaps I meant that, the person being replied to should post a "Thank You" for that Reply. They can vote up as well if they know how.

A second matter is best shown, I think, upon the old NAS Comments Thread. A lot of us became frustrated at it, and so when someone Posted something, the amount of support - even just a "Yes I agree!" - was what it took to get the attention of NAS (well, WebPM anyway). Maybe it counts as SPAM (!) (e.g. I agree, I agree, yes, etc.)... but they noticed it then.

I cannot really say more than that about it...
