Hi All!

Hi I’m new to the site and we have just found out my son is on the ASD. We have known for a while this might happen so it didn’t come as a big shock. He is 6 nearly 7 and going up to year 3 in a new school, which is causing nothing but problems at home and at school, he is still in main stream schooling, the school is wonderful and has a very good special needs department that helps him a lot. We are in the Aldershot area and just wondered if anyone else was from around here that know of any good groups we could start going to?

  • Hi there,

My 12yr old has only just been diagnosed, so I haven't been along to any groups yet.

The NAS Hart & Rushmoor branch seem to have lots going on: www.nashandr.org they also have a facebook page.

There is also www.mugsy.org for the NAS Surrey Branch - join their email discussion list and get their newsletter. The Surrey branch have a coffee morning at The Games Shop in Aldershot on 28th June according to their latest newsletter. I believe there might be some social skills groups run from The Games Shop too.

There is also a special needs group in Aldershot: www.aldershotspecialneedsgroup.hampshire.org.uk - but again, I haven't been so don't know anything about it.

I think I saw a poster at the Frimley Children's Centre about a local group for ASD etc. but I have no idea where it was now!

I'm feeling new to all of this and quite lost, so I'm interested in seeing any other replies you get.
