I'm New

Hello

I have joined here as we are going through hell trying to get help for my son. He is 12 this month and we finally have been accepted for an assessment for Aspergers. We have only really found out since Xmas that he has this. The Ed Psych has told us that it is this and we must treat him that he has it to make our life easier and boy has it done just that. He is struggling at school big time and never wants to go and i believe he is being picked on. I also have a daughter who is 13 and i think she is struggling to come to terms with how her brother is so any advice would be greatly received. I am married to my lovely hubby who is their step father and we have a black labrador with hip dysplatia.

I am hoping to find that i am not alone with all this and that everything we are experiencing is "normal"

  • Hello both of you and welcome to the community.  I am sure that you will be able to find lots of information and advice here.

Getting the diagnosis is just the first stage.  It then becomes a battle to find your way around all the different agencies and service providers who can help you.  Different areas provide different things and unfortunately it does sometimes mean that those who shout loudest get the help needed.  CAMHS should be continuing to provide support and strategies after diagnosis so you need to go back to them for help.

Please don't help hesitate to continue to post and we all look forward to hearing from you.
