My name is Andrea. My 8 year old son Charlie has been diagnosed, today, with Asperger's, it's a diagnosis we've waited 2 years for.
I didn't want him to have a label, as far as I am concerned he is just Charlie, however I know a diagnosis will get him the help and support he needs at school.
I have worked in childcare since 1998 and with children and babies with severe and complex needs since 2000, so I was well aware that this diagnosis was heading our way, yet still I shed a few tears when the diagnosis was given. Not sure if it was relief, or that little bit in all of us that just wants our children to be perfect.
Is there any one out there that has experience of Autism Bedfordshire, LOAF, DADS, or FLAG in Luton? My only experience with any of these is in a professional capacity when hiring out rooms to them at a Children's Centre.
