Hello... daughter with Aspergers ...

Hello all.....Cool

Let me introduce myself to you all! I am a full time mum to my two daughters one of whom is ten years old and has a formal diognoisis of Aspergers and Dyspraxia and in turn this brings problems with sensory processing disorder.

The way in which the ASD effects my dd is socially she really struggles to understand social situations or peoples expressions, she is unable to play fairly with her friends or with her sister as she feels the need to be in control of any game shes playing. She finds the school day overwhelming and gets angry in which she needs time out. My dd does not cope with change at all, even the smallest change needs major preparation.

Sleep is a challenge despite medication she still wakes every few hours unable to get back to sleep.

Eating is a challenge too, there are so many things she can not tolerate so she does have a special diet and nothing can be mixed together.

My dd has so many positive aspects tooLaughing

Her memory is fantastic long term that is! She remembers holidays etc in such detail from when she was two..... she loves to write poems and draws such amazing pictures. She has fantasic confidence with horses too but is afraid of all other animals.....

I have given you all a bit of background as i am hoping some of you can relate to our situation and i hope to make some friendships with people in similar situations.

As a mum to an autistic child i often feel a sense of being alone despite having people around me, none of my friends have an autistic child so although they are lovely they struggle to understand the impact autism can have on a child and their family.

Anyway I think i have said enough for now.

Thank you for reading

I too sometimes feel at a loss and although i have a supportive family they dont always understand my son and his special ways . Finding this site as been a godsend I can now find the information and support at the click of a button and also help and support others along the way. Your story is almost a carbon copy of ours and i understand exactly how you feel.
