intro

Hi everyone

Just popped on to say hello

Not sure what to put now that I have come on here...My son is 9yrs old and has just recieved a diagnosis of Autism after ...5yrs of 'fighting' for help for him ... He is not in school and apparently I have to choose one...the ed department suggested two in our area...but I'm not sure either are any use for him, one certainly isn't so not sure what my next move will be.. well dont want to go on and on as I seem to just lately so I'll get off now.Smile

  • hi all

As my son finds it really difficult to go anywhere I am wondering if there is anything out there that we could give him to reduce his anxiety levels. I dont want him on long term anything, just something when we want to take him out to help him cope a little better.

Any info would be good as camhs are sending me a leaflet on a drug which they say he could have a quater mil when they usually give 8 mil...I will research it but I dont have any trust in the camhs services and am extremely cautious about anything they say...

    thanks for any advice

    Undecided

  • hi ya me again...

does anyone know where i might get impartial advice on schools.....My son dislikes other children although he wants to mix with them his fears prevent him from doing so..I have looked at an autistic school out of area and am going to look at a special ed school next week, i have also looked at two resource mainstream schools..one i wrote off within seconds and the other i have to look at again when there are actually children in there....my son can talk, he is way above his chronological age in reading, spelling etc but finds it difficult (thats a huge understatement) to go anywhere, including his grans..the education department want me to choose a school with a resource unit because he did cope (just means he didn't kick off in school)with mainstream until year 3..because when he 'loses' it i am afraid he will strike out at other children in the resource units..

i am now losing sleep over which school he should go to and am scared myself should i choose the wrong one...i have never in 30 odd years of parenting felt so useless and so unable to make a decision....

  • Hi. My husband and I are legal guardians to our 11 year old grandson who has high functioning autism and some quite severe behavioural issues at home. I'd love to speak to any other grandparents on the forum who find themselves in the same situation as us.
