weight gain

hi,my name is marcelle.

my daughter of 7 has just been diagnosed with aspergers. I knew from a young age she was special. She showed a lot of similarities to her cousin who has aspergers too...which helped me. Lassara, thats her name, from a young age had problems with food. She would gag on certain texture and has allways been a fussy eater. She has a limited of things she will eat like, fruit, cheerios, youghurts(only in tubes),spaghetti hoops(only heinz brand),advocados, pasta and cheese...and ofcourse chocolate and sweets(which i limit to special occasions as it makes her hyper). The problem ive noticed is that Lassara has put on a lot of weight all of a sudden, without change in her habits. From being a normal weight till 5years old,she wears jeans and clothing for 9-10 years now(and they are getting tight).every month i see a difference. I do not give in, if she doesnt want to eat i dont force or get angry ,i just tell her that there ll be nothing else but fruit till next meal.i try to make things as healthy as possible and have discussed my concerns to doctors. She is being bullied about it.

i dont know if anyone else has had this problem and would love to hear any feedback from anyone.

thank you,Marcelle

  • i have another appointment with the autistic doctor specialist tomorrow and see what he says. when u mentioned about the starvation mode,it did come into my mind.lassara was very ill around 4 with pneumonia and lost a lot of weight with vomiting and not eating and it was when she recovered that her weight started to pile on. im not a doctor but it was in the back of my mind that it could of triggered something...thanks for ur reply.take care
