Hey everyone...

Hey there,

I hope you are all well. I am new to the site, i was told to check it out because in my area theres no one who is dealing with the chaos that we deal with every day.

I have a 10 year old son who is the most loving and adorable like boy you will ever meet. Well thats how i see him, others not so much. My own family have a hard time dealing with his quirks and mannerisms. As i always say my son is who he is and i see no wrong in him but his teacher did when he was in ar 1 at school. We were refered to get assessed. After what felt like yrs (it was in fact 3 months) he was diagnosed with ADHD. I was unsure at first but the more i read up the more i saw my son in what i was reading. He was just about to turn 6. By 7 he was diagnosed with Dyspraxia and seperation anxiety.

As he has got older more and more symptoms have emerged. For the past 3 years i have said to his consultant "are you sure we have it right? he is soooo very different to his peers!" and thats even on medication.

He has never had any friends, he is awkward around others, will not be in the same room as a baby ( i think its the fear of a smelly nappy) He is unmanageable in public (i think its when because he is anxious and acts out) He has never slept more than 3 hours a night since he was 1, He HATES certain fabrics, he will only use HIS plate, cup bowl and cutlery (which is kept in HIS cupboard!) he is ALWAYS hungry and would eat till he was sick if given the option...the list goes on. I wont even get started on the major problems with school!!!

I have finely managed to pursuade his consultant for further testing (still awaiting) as i think he may be on the autistic spectrum even if it is just at the bottom.

AM I RIGHT TO THINK THIS? Is it possible for one little boy to have so may 'issues'

I would love to hear your tales and stories, i sometimes feel so alone with all this...

Sorry it turned into an essay but as you can imagine its the VERY slimmed down version haha

  • Hi Loulabell,

Your story certainly sounds very typical - first it's this, then it's that, then it's something else, until eventually, someone figures out it's an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, and then everyone goes "OH Yeah! That explains it all!".

And, whilst I'm not going to say "yeah, that's definitely Autism!", well, it certainly sounds like it is!
