Hi all,
Sorry for the long message but im really stressing out.
Im having trouble understanding the assessment process for my 4 yr old son.
Since 18 months we knew something was different about him compared to our other children. He had no speech or language and displayed many autistic traits. Last year we had our first scat and they concluded they couldnt make a descision on him, give another 6 months and he will be reviewed. This was due to his speech coming on a little and acting different at his hospital unit to how he was at home.
We had cahms involved due to his behaviour and seen every professional they have offered dietician, speech therapist etc.
Today was his review and after stating that all his behaviour and traits havent changed (infact they have grew worse) but his speech has improved slightly, (still cant talk, has a vocab of 30 basic words) he is being reviewed in another 2 months because the panel cant agree.
Im getting the distict impression that they think we are either lying or exaggerating just because he acts different in his hospital unit to home.
Basically i feel in limbo here, we know he has many austistic traits but not all. They are saying because he is developing speech its not a clear diagnosis.
Im really worried they will give no diagnosis but no answer either to what could be wrong with him.
Basically the scat panel are saying he needs all traits of autism to be diagnosed. But they wont rule it out because he has alot at the same time.
If they rule hes not on the spectrum(which im definite they will after today) what else could it be if you still have autistic traits?
Many thanks
A worried parent
