Help please

Hiya I have just had an assessment with the speech and language therapist she has told me there is a possibility that the paediatrician will say my ds is on the autism spectrum, my head is all over the place I don't know if I was expecting this or if I was hoping we were failing in him in some way so that we could be to blame for his lack of social and emotional skills, hes going through assessments at nursery and she has told me to apply for dla, I have so much going on in my head right now, I guess I'm just looking for some advice of where to go to from here thank you

  • Your social worker should be more proactive than she/he appears to be.  Your local council social services dept will have a Safeguarding Adults Committee.  Demand they hold a meeting about the lack of care. bullying and dangerous situations your son is continuing to experience.  Get your facts together.  Get in touch with the Councillor responsible for Adult social care.  Their name and contact details should be available on your council's website.  Good luck

  • Hi, new to this but desperate to know if others have had same problem and what they did to solve it.

My son moved out recently into what was supposed to be an autistic home supported by Autism Insitive. With in a week they pulled out their support and Mencap stepped in. They came into the home like a bull in a china shop and did very little in the way of listening to what we his carers and parents said let alone what son said. Since then they have suspended one worker due to bullying and inappropriate attitude manner towards him. One night my son was called to go help a housemate who had become suicidal, he rushed to the scene and got help. Only to be told it was his fault by the manager who came around without his support to interview him about the incident. He has benn pushed to his room by another house mate who regulary Locks him out, management have done nothing to address this. There have been days when they have not turned up with their support. Management have again been there today with what can only be described as bullying tactics. One of the support workers made his life a living hell during school and management still send them around even when son stated he does not want their involvment in his support or info given to them. They also dislike that I support him so much and fight for his rights. Recently had no choice but to contact his social worker and this is why I think managment have been to see him today.

Has anyone else had issue with Mencap and made a complaint? How did it go? Where do we stand in sacking Mencap and his rights to still getting his support hours?

Son was on the phone crying as he no longer wants to deal with them and now desperately wants to leave his little flat that he adores. So angry that they are bullying him out of his home.

    Thank you.
