Hi
i thought I would try on here as I've posted and not had any replys
on net mums.
anyway my son is 15 months old and I've been worried about him for a while, when I try to talk to family members I just get the typical responses.
i thought I'd mention here I'm waiting for his devolpmental ped appointment in may, and I'm also waiting to be seen by speech.
i just want to know what you think, I know no one can diagnosis and I know ever child on the spectrum is different.
everything was "typical" and my son at 8 months started babbaling he said mama baba gaga dada.
then by the end of 9 months he mainly said dada to everything or the normal squeals and ahhh ohhh sounds, he had stopped saying mama gaga etc he would usually just babble it away.
also by 12 months I noticed he wasn't pointing waving responding to his name, and he was doing repetetive play he loves stacking and throwing a ball but he was spinning everything at that point, dummies cups cars etc He also would shake his head side to side alot.
so at 13 months I was worried because of the red flags of not pointing waving no words, I spoke to health vistor who booked his hearing test which he passed, no issues.
by the end of 13 months he mainly responds to his name, the head shaking has gone and I'd say 95%of spinning things Has stopped.
now at 15 months still says da da, he stacks does puzzles he loves anticipation games he plays peekaboo and chase he likes nursery rhymes and sometimes will put his arms up for twinkle twinkle, he reaches for things he wants.
his also started to "help" putting books back also getting a broom and sweeping, and he also pretend plays for a few mins with putting a spoon to a teddy and dolls mouth and a cup.
doesnt pretend play with a brush or phone.
he will put his arms up to get in a highchair or just to be picked up etc
he hands me things for help things to open
his eye contact is ok
he social references alot
not sure about joint attention?
also has fed me raisins shared his bottle and dummy when I've pretended to want it
he also understands look and follows my point sometimes
understands dummy, snack
and bye bye he will stop and look at you, and he understands no.
also doesn't shake his head for no or yes
he sometimes will come to me now at 14-15 months if I say come here
but won't understand can you bring me teddy or book etc
My main concerns :-
Not listening when outside
Doesn't show me things toys etc unless help
Doesn't point out things
No words
Doesn't get upset when we leave (does try to follow sometimes)
Doesn't wave goodbye
He'll happily play on his own for a long time
has to always turn every light switch and plug socket switch on.
he also sometimes does like this yoga pose lol where he puts his head down on the floor with his arms and bum in the air like a triangle ( I don't know if this is just typical toddler behaviour)
now my mum thinks it's just a speech delay but I know there's quite a lot of red flags for autism.
im also worried the ped is going to fob me of and do the wait and see approach.
ive done the mchat which I know is for 16-18 months
but I ended up getting a 5 medium risk and was mainly because of the pointing, not understanding commands etc.
just feeling down as he will be my only child (previous losses and complications due to a hospital negligence) and just wanted the best for him I guess, feel like I'm greiving again.
Does this sound similar to anyone else? do you think it's just a speech delay? I was reading about how it can mimic autism symptoms but then I read other speech and language sites saying that even if there's a delay in speech they usually want to show you things etc
thanks for reading if you made it this far
