What is this second assessment for?

I still don't have my report. I phoned up on Friday to ask where it was and told someone would get back to me.

They phoned my parents on Tuesday. (I was out) My parents were told that someone managed to lose the electronic version of the report and that I'm not registered with the named GP surgery.

Spoke to the surgery on Wednesday and explained the situation. They've not had anyone contact them and did confirm I was registered. (I had an appointment that afternoon)

Phoned psych's sectary. She had no idea what I was on about. She explained that I have "Autistic traits" and that a clinic letter was missing. I will get the report and the letters.

I think my parents will still have them. But getting hold of them will lead to questions. I can see hurdle's ahead. My parents don't even believe in mental health problems and think our family is "perfect". To be honest my folks worldview is so tiny, but there so happy in the bubble. They're not daft in terms of Mathematics and English skills, but they didn't even understand what I studied at Uni (even after I finished). So this is what I'm up against. My mum has something going on were she thinks that every illness/condition is much worse than it is. I had a cyst in my forehead, she thought I had cancer. I had tight hamstings which needed physio, she was starting to talk about people having back surgery.

They're really supportive otherwise, will defend me know matter what and I could always go home or ask for money, but this is a bit tabboo. Plus if I hav'nt got autism, and I dont get a diagnosis, they will be like "look nothing wrong", were I will be like "mmm still got problems, good do with help and finding out what my problems are".

Do you have any school reports?  Do you have any siblings who could go with you - they won't be as  good a witness as your parents but they can still provide another dimension.

As I understand it, without some information about ones development in early childhood, it makes a definitive diagnosis much more difficult.

My folks are just in complete denial about me being Dyslexic let alone having AS. I approached the subject a few years ago and they just didn't get it.

He has Aspergers and was diagnosed years before me.

Does your older brother have autism or aspergers? And was he diagnosed before or after you?

I was diagnosed with Aspergers, but I am interested in the distinction between autism and AS. I know a guy who has Aspergers - he was diagnosed late - but he did not learn to speak until he was over two years old. However, he is very high-functioning.

Not sure. Because I have an older brother, (also on the spectrum) he would speak for me.

I think so. How old were you when you learnt to speak?

Yes it's the speech. Is that the only difference?

I am interested to know why you received an autism diagnosis and not an Asperger one?Was this because you  were late to speak?

I had my second appointment yesterday. I have been told that I have Autism; not Aspergers.

I am now waiting on a letter from my psychiatrist.

I have been told I should have my second appointment within the next few weeks. There was one planned for a week Friday; but can't do that one. 

Really.. It saddens/maddens me to read that!

I would definitly not go back to that therapist either! ....I do still lieke to advise you to seek an OT with experience with Sensory Processing Disorders, like autism, ADD, ADHD, ... and explain what you encounter.. Lét them do the thinking ;-)

Thanks butterfly. I have seen an OT before (I am partially sighted) and found them to be useless. Probably not helped by having virtually unheard of issues due to sensory loss.

Parents are usually asked to get more info on the childhood..: Where there signs than, eventhough overlooked then.. What were those signs? (and also looking at how the interaction is.. and if there are any signs in the parent(s), those could be observed..

btw: There is nothing wrong with calling you shrink and just ask ;-) That would be the best answer to your question..

I think it's wise to see an Occupational Therapist.. Why? the real issue, in my eyes, are the underlying sensory issues.. an OT can assess those and help you balance the senses better, so you can function more optimally.
