LEA Ed Psych Criteria

What are the criteria to be assessed by the LEA Ed Psych?

G is a no problem at all child so in my experience so far, if no problems are presented at school everything plods along same as usual. I just want him to be tested to make sure there are no underlying problems because Autism to me has been a bit like an iceburg.

  • Forgot to say G has an Autism diagnosis and on SA+.
Because Autism to me has been a bit like an iceburg I would prefer him to have as many tests as possible to learn about G therefore I am making the criteria fit to get an assessment without lying of course. I am stuck on the idea of early intervention.

I worry alot that  "she said she would not assess her as the class teacher thinks my daughter is no different to anyone else in the class."    the teacher says this so that she does not have to do any work such as differential teaching or social stories. Or am I just OTT now, like my husband says.

I also worry that County Council staff do seem to have standard answers (eg you have given him a label now) brainwashed to them to save money or avoid timewasters or whatever.

I just can't get it into my head that children are not regularly eg annually, tested if they have a diagnosis.

I am writing an essay to myself on why I think I need G assessed.

  • Hi,

I have two children waiting for an autism assessment.

My eldest in in secondary school and it was the SENCO that called me in for a chat and we both agreed that my son should be assessed by an ed psych as it was felt he may have aspergers alongside his adhd diagnosis.  Some of the teachers had commented on his behaviour. He is on school action plus.

My middle child is 5yrs and she is on school action plus too.  Possible autism was picked up at her 2yr check and she was assessed last year but the results were inconclusive as they felt it was too premature to diagnose her fully at that time.  She is due to be reassessed next year when she is 7rs. (we believe she has high functioning autism).

With my Daughter, it was a different story.  Her class teacher she has now can not see any difficulties and wont use social stories etc (like what was used last year with a different teacher)as she feel my Daughter does not need them.  I asked for an ed psych to assess her with the agreement of the SENCO  thinking this will show my Daughter has difficulties, but when i met the ed psych before she was due to meet my Daughter she said she would not assess her as the class teacher thinks my daughter is no different to anyone else in the class.

Obviously this has upset me but there is nothing i can do, just hope and prey the teacher she has next year will be more understanding.  the one she has now is so lovely though and a really good teacher but unfortunatly i dont think she knows enough about autism especially regarding girls.

Sorry to have gone on there lol

    I hope you can get a referral : )
