Is he really ill

So my son is 17 he started college this year and he loved it after the initail anxiety was worn off.

then boom he cant go to college, he is ill, he doesnt eat in front of people. after test conclusiion is nothing wrong with him.

He has shut himself off from the real world and sit in his room allday he told me that he couldnt remember a persons name the other day and could only think of car names. (should I be concerend) How do I know if he has a serious mental health issue. He wont tell me I dont know the questions to ask because how are you? Only elicits the OK, or not ok. I discovered that how are you feeling doesnt mean to him that I want to know if he is in pain more if he is tired or not.

When he started college I said you are in charge now if you go great if you dont that is your problem. I couldnt deal with it being my reponsibility anymore it was too difficult. School had been a nightmare.

So if there is nothing physically wrong do I pressure him to go to college? Do I leave him to make his own choices and hope he learns from his mistakes and wakes up one day and goes ok now I am motivated to do something with my life?

Do I tell him he is well until he beleives it?

I am at the point where I am thinking I take him to A & E and spill the story and see what happens. I have been told he will be seen there and then and we wont have to deal with this slow porcess through the doctors to find a solution. I have heard stories of people who have had conditions that take years to diagnose such as ME and Crohns.

Any advice welcome. Dont know where to trun next. :(
