2yr old currently under assessment

Hi I'm new to the group just wanted to say hi

I have a 30month old daughter who is currently waiting to be assessed, she is still young but I have noticed differences between her and my other daughter who is 6.

At 18 months we had no eye contact, communication and felt like I wasn't there most the time so I contacted the doctor she has progressed alot over the months but still not words and limited eye contact.

I'm just feeling alone not really got anyone to talk to about it my health visitor has not contacted since 18 months just feel I've been left to cope with something I know little about so was hoping to talk to others who are going through the same

Thank u for listening

  • i know how you feel. My sons just being diagnosed right now. He is 4 and the latest chat with the people assessing was that he has high functioning autism and next week is the big meeting when it's made official.

As a mother I found the lack of eye contact maybe the worst thing about it. It felt like he wouldn't let me in if you know what I mean.  Like he didn't want me to read him in a kind of way. He is now 4 and his eye contact has improved immensely so that's not so much of a problem now. I'm sure it can improve in some kids and doesn't in others. I would say as your child is still so young  they still have a lot of developing to do anyway so it's possible things may improve in certain areas over time. I know this won't be true for everyone though. All I can say from my experience is that my son has improved a lot in many areas especially since he was 2.

Maybe you should seek out a local group in addition to posting on here. You could always drop into the local surestart playgroup where they have health visitors if you want to speak to a different one maybe? Or you can mail me!
