Hi there - our son (13) has just been diagnosed with HFASD. It's been suggested by the pyscologist that he would be better (amongst other things) in a smaller classroom than of that of a mainstream school (ideally 20 rather than 30!)
Firstly, since we are only in to 4 days of diagnosis, we are completely overwhlemed with all of the informaiton and really have no clue as to what to do next. Our son was told today that he has autism but true to his characteristics, he showed no emotion.
It's looking likely that the mainstream school he attends will not be the best choice for him but again we are in a pool of undoubt as to what to do for the best. The change, as you are probably aware, will just knock him sideways.
Are there any local help groups in the buckinghamshire area (preferably near High Wycombe) or can anyone give any advice on the routes to take, post diagnosis.
His school today have applied for an EHCP so . . . . . ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
