What should I expect from my ASD assessment

Hi,

So my ASD assessment is coming up soon...I've been wondering what I should expect; How long does the assessment normally last? Are you allowed to have someone in the room with you during the assessment? What should I do if I feel uncomfortable at any point, or if I feel I'm not being listened to?

Thanks

  • Hi, am guessing it varies depending on where you go - but have recently had mine (this week - in Sheffield). I went with my daughter for support to get me there but she didn't go in with me (she could have done) - I had a lovely lady who clearly explained it was a long process and usually lasted 3 hours, that there would be a short break in this - but I could request a break any time I needed as many as I needed and I could do as much as possible and return to finish another time if necessary. I managed to get through it on one session (over 3 hours) with one short break - there was extensive and thorough questioning - and I was able to return their questionnaire completed by my mother and her further comments. I admit I felt both shell-shocked and totally drained on completion (hours of talking and thinking!!) but was very relieved I did it in one session and could avoid another difficult journey. She also talked briefly about how the result might affect me - either way - and told me I would get a copy of the report and one would be sent to my GP if I was happy with this.

  • Hi ,

Can anyone shed some light on the assesment please?

    Regards
