Diagnosis

hi, my son has just been diagnosed with moderate autism.  He has been under paediatricians since he was in pre school but has only just had his ados assessment At the age of 8.

I'm just feeling a little overwhelmed with it all and a little unsure where to go or what to do from here.

nothing is going to change at home as we have learnt as a family to deal/cope with the anxiety and behaviour My son can show.  I guess I wasn't expecting to hear the definate diagnosis.

i would just like to hear from some of you who have been/are in my position and can offer me some advice

Thank you in advance

  • I'm in a very similar position to you with my son just being diagnosed. I think it's a positive thing you now know for sure as hopefully it will open up some support especially through his school years. And also it should explain a lot, even some tiny little details you would never have even thought of before. For example my son hates puzzles and his assessment showed up the fact he has a visual processing disorder. Now I know why he hates puzzles! I think now my son has been diagnosed I will understand him even more than I do already. I hope you're coping ok since posting?
