My son is 7 nearly 8, he has traits of ASD, as in he struggles with change of routine and we use visuals and timers to help with this. He gets angry and frustrated and very anxious regarding the future (could be the future in terms of next hour, next week,next month and he even worries about what job or where he will live when he is older). He gets along well with familiar adults and children but sometimes doesnt understand the games children of the same age play as they are to complex for him, he then becomes frustrated/angry and has lashed out on occasions.
Anyway thats a basic overview, lots of other issues. But he has recently had a few tests which have left me confused. I have always had in my head that he could possibly have ASD even from when he was younger (we have ASD in the family on both sides and i work with children so i have seen and experienced children ranging on the spectrum) i have also thought it could be Auditory Processing Disorder as most of his difficulties are based around him understanding/listening/memory.
He has had two community pead appointments.
Well one test Auditory department said and sent me letter saying he has Glue ear, but they also suspect Auditory Processing/ ASD and to involve speech and language.
Speech and Language have done assessments and said his understanding and use of vocab was good and they suspect, concentration/ ADD. They have discharged him after one visit at home and one in school.
He has had an ADD test, were they concentrate on a specific task for 15min. Still not heard back from that.
School agree he has some ASD traits, but he is also below in all academic areas and is anxious in school as he cant remember instructions so doesnt want to work independently.
Basically my questions are:
Does anyone know if i can appeal him being discharged from Speech and Language?
Is it Speech and Language who assess for Auditory Processing or somebody else?
Has anyone else child had the ADD test we didnt really get it explained and he had to do it in a room without me?
I just don't know where to go from here, he has recently been put on the Pathway and we are awaiting an educational pysch appointment in school.
Any help/advice of where to go next would be great.
