Hi all looking for some advice please i have a 12yr old son who is aspergers, my youngest son who is almost 5 is on the waiting list for an autism assesment although its taken us almost 3 yrs to get someone to take our concerns seriously. My youngest son has been diagnoised with dyspraxia and dyspraxia of speech his sppech delay is around 18 months and his expressive and receptive speech is delayed of around 20 months. Its his other behaviours and sensory problems that have me wondering if he is on the autistic spectrum or not, his pedatrician seems to think he wont tick enough boxes for an autism diagnosis as he does eye contact and seemed sociable in front of her although that is not the case 99% of the time. He does do eye contact but his social skills are really bad he will not go up to other children and want to play, he hates other children coming up to him, he will only play with other children on his terms and when he feels ready to. He hates crowds of people he will freeze and cover his ears and cry if the crowd gets to big or to loud, he hate sloud nosises eg motorbike, bus air brakes, hair dryer etc. My son will not eat or drink anything hot or warm it has to be cold, he will not eat dinner he throws it on the floor or at me, his diet is very poor as his sensory problems with food restricts his diet. His temper tantrums are spectular if he doesnt want to do something he will not do it come hell or high water and i mean he wont. He refuses to walk more than 50 feet before i have to either carry him or put him in his pushchair. He has to have all the labels cut out of his clothes or he screams, in his speech therapy he has had many of meltdowns thrown chairs at his sppech therapist screamed at her etc i just dont know if he will tick enough boxes theres so much more to his behaviour that i could go on forever what does everyone think as if he is diagnoised we want the help and support in place for him asap many thanks for reading x
