possible side effects of depakote for adult male

Hello, I am concerned with my son's gross motor skills. He is 20 years old. They are deteriorating. I believe it is due to depakote, but I am interested to know if anyone has had experience with this drug in treating autism. He is also eating voraciously, but is extremely thin. May be 2 separate issues, but I am desperate to get help for him. I can explain more once I hear from the group. Thank you very much.

  • Hi Julesea - Thanks for responding. I don't know of any benefits it has, either. My son was placed on it in order to control anxiety, mixed with agression. He went through a tough spell a while back. But, since he's been on it, I've seen him rapidly decline, in the way I mention in my first comment. I have spoken to his neurolgist who was not very helpful. In fact, he was dismissive about his weight loss, and his loss of muscle control. He was very discouraging. He sees a new psychiatrist on the 2nd, we'll see how that goes.
