DLA

Hi,

Our 4 year old son has not been formally diagnosed with ASD yet, although it seems highly likely that is what he has. He is currently undergoing speech therapy, occupational therapy and will be staying at nursery in September until he goes to school. He is also not toilet trained yet which obviously causes issues with nursery. Are we able to claim DLA now or is it best to wait until there is a more formal diagnosis? I wouldn't want to be turned down now, although presumably we could re-apply once diagnosis was received.

Apologies, I didn't mean to be harsh with anyone. We have had a pretty stressful week this week with all the news we've had. Our life really has been turned upside down the last few months.

Yes, it will be very stressful at the moment but now that you know what you are dealing with you'll be able to plan and think ahead when things settle down a bit.

We're here to help where we can. Some members here have been where you are now in your situation will be able to offer sound advice from experience.

  • I've had a look at the DLA forms. Wow! Do you think they made them long enough?

And please be mindful of how you respond to people who reply to you post, I might be wrong but you seem to com across as harsh. We are all in the situation and here to offer help and support one another. X

It's not just me that got that impression then?

A lot of us here are on the Autistic Spectrum and might not answer a question in the way you are expecting/wanting but we are trying to be helpful.

For me, I will try to suggest [unwanted] solutions when all an NT wants is someone to listen. That's one thing about me that drives my wife nuts. You'll get that a lot from Aspies as we fail to understand why someone would NOT want a solution.

  • Hi, Why do you think he wouldn't be eligible for DLA? We have a full report detailing all the problems he has. He is 51 months old yet in all the categories of assessment he was no higher than 24 months.
