Adult asd assessment

Hello, I have to go for second part of my assessment tomorrow for asd.

Already been for interview assessment that lasted 3 hours.

Now have to go for a task based interview that i am told will last 1 hour.

Can anyone give any info on what i can expect this to include please? i have heard it means telling a story about objects and describing pictures amongst other things.

I am 55 male

thank you all

  • Assessment was 1 hour. Mix of questions and practical tasks, very simplistic at first thought. ADOS Many of the questions had already been covered in my previous assessment.

Do a block puzzle, recount a picture story book, act out task, remember 6 pictures and recall story, pick 5 random objects and create story.

A mix of objects, pen, puzzle book,  2 dice, 2 rubber balls were placed on desk and i was told to amuse myself while he caught up with his writing in report, also part of test i presume. Experience was uncomfortable i thought.

Just have to wait and see.

  • Hi

I was 45 and was diagnosed 2 year ago.

But if you really want to know what i did for the second part is that I played. Yep I played and told made up stories. Easy after the first part. Don't know if you have the same thing though for the task element.

Oops may be a bit late now

I don't think it was exactly the same but the consultant subjected me to some situations and observed my reactions and behaviours. They are looking for your instinctive behaviours which are, by definition, sub-conscious so it is best just to let yourself be yourself and react instinctively. They want you to react without over thinking or double thinking (trying to do what you think they expect).

Diagnosis often comes in the midst of stressful times so I know that it is hard to relax but actually that is better than worrying about the test and getting worked up about it.

I'm crossing my fingers for you and really hope it all goes well today.

  • Thanks for reply. Did you have to do this task based assessment too?

    Hi, welcome to the forum,

I can't give you any pointers about exactly what would happen and even if I could I expect that you would find that it would be different to what you expected. The key thing is just to go in and try not to guess what they want you to do but just do it naturally according to the instructions and your interpretation of those instructions. They are not trying to trick you or see if you can put on a show, they just want to see what you do in some different situations when they ask you to do things. Try and relax and do try to follow the instructions and do ask for clarification if they haven't made themselves clear. You will likely show your traits without being aware of it and they will see that.

I was diagnosed at 56 and am also male so you aren't alone in this situation.
