Scared of the dentist - help

I'm really worried at the moment as when I brush my teeth (with electrick toothbrush) my front two teeth sometimes bleed. the rest of my teeth are ok it's just my front two. I've been to the dentist who said my teeth are good but have a bit of redness ad I need to spend a bit longer brushing, which I have been doing.

I'm really worried and have tried to make an appointment, but apparently I cant be seen until the end of May! I have started using Corsadyle mouthwash to see if that helps, but I'm still worrying. Can anyone advise me please?

My friend doesn't help she says the one I go to are butchers and don't tell you if anything is wrong until it's too late. Apparently she says it's a ploy to get NHS patients to pay for dental work.

  • Hi Aura, I have had  lot of dental issues too, mostly due to fear of dentists,  but now am lucky to be having treatment with a good understanding dentist, and have had a lot of good advice about brushing. i have an electric toothbrush - which you have to use at a 45 degree angle -pushing up (or down) into the gap between the teeth and gums, then I have the little tepe brushes, which are for between the teeth, and finally a small round pointy brush that I have to really push up into the gap between the teeth and gums, and wriggle about. All of this takes about 10 minutes and it does make your gums bleed - but that is not a problem - in the long term it will stop the bleeding. Also I was advised to use mouthwash - but not right after brushing. I don't think a small amount of bleeding is much to worry about - end of May sounds fine  - that's when I have my next appointment and believe me my teeth will be far worse than yours due to years of neglect. I would say you are lucky to have a dentist at all, maybe look into switching to another one, but would not worry too much about what your friend says. Its more important to make looking after your teeth every day a habit - wish I could follow my own advice there !
