Changed doctors - lost assessment/referral?!

So, to cut the story short. I split with my partner of 8 years a few weeks ago after he told me that he felt like my carer and could no longer cope with my mental health problems. He told he no longer loved me. So since then things have been ok, sorting address changes and joining new doctors etc. Moving in with my parents. The main problem I have come across is that my new doctor does not have any details regarding my referal for my assessment for autism, they say I would have to start the process/waiting all over again. When I called my previous doctor they said they couldn't help as I was no longer on their system... to me it just sounds like laziness. I am right in assuming they should still have those details and pass them onto the new doctor practice? Seems a bit fishy to me.

    Yes, you're right, that does sound peculiar.  Your referral should be right there on your medical records if your old doctor documented everything correctly.  The "not on our system" excuse is fishy too - all health practitioners should be using the NHS centralised "SystmOne" for recording their interventions with you.

    Do you know what unit you were referred to, or maybe can find out from local NHS resources?  There's not often more than one unit in a NHS district, so it might not be too hard to identify.  If possible, it might then be best to contact the evaluation unit directly to make sure that you are still on their waiting list - there's no reason that you shouldn't be, but of course, you'll still want to ensure that they send appointments to your new address.
