Help needed with BAS3 scoring

Hi all,

I have a question on how to score a child on the Naming Vocabulary subtest of BASIII.

The child scored 14 out of Item Set 1-17, but went on to score a further 4 out of 7 correct answers on items 18 to 24.  So I am uncertain which Item set to score the child on.  Is it...

Raw score 14, Item Set 1-17

Raw score 18, Item Set 1-24

Raw score 8, Item Set 11-24

I've received conflicting advice so would be grateful if anyone could answer with a clear explanation.

Thanks,

Emmett

  • Usually you need a license to use British Ability Scales III, though some interpretation is possible from limited guidelines without license, eg for curious members of the public.

If you were a licensed user you would be entitled to direct help.

And as recombinantsocks says this isn't a forum likely to know, although many parents will have encountered these scores being used on their children.

The trouble with secret systems like BAS is that, if they cannot be externally scrutinised their validity needs to be called into question.

Too much psychology/psychiatry directly affecting us as individuals is set apart and inaccessible like some form of alchemy. My feeling is we should treat all such mumbo jumbo with the contempt it deserves.

But then I am of the view that the Triad of Impairments is being misused - seems to put me in a minority of 1

Tests like that usually come with training/guides/backup resources. I don't expect anyone here to be qualified to give an opinion. What are the circumstances that lead you to enquire?
