• Try to remember that there is no hurry - that helps me a lot.

It sometimes takes me an hour or more to write one short post if the subject is difficult to write about.  But that is fine.

And like Asparagus says, there can be other ways to express yourself.  How do you think of ideas inside your head?  Do you see them as pictures?  Hear them as sounds?  Some very successful and famous autistic people think in those ways instead of using words.

  • Hi

try drawing you ideas then?  It works for me sometimes when no words to express I sometimes draw pictures. I am rubbish at drawing and only one person sees those drawings. He talks to me about the drawing which helps me in turn to express what i  need to.

But if you hate writing, try drawing and find your style of drawing.

  • What are you afraid of writing? If you are scared of writing posts online then just take time in to what you are writing, like I do a lot. Grammar annoys some people - myself included - and doesn't bother others.

  • Hi Aoch

It isn't easy to write something and if you worry what people will think it makes it worse.

But the people on this web site are good understanding people, and I think it would do you good to write some things down.

    Do you have any hobbies?

  • Hi Aoch, me too. I spend ages writing and then editing the things I write, just because I'm so desperate to say what I mean. Sometimes, I do all that and then wipe it completely because I don't want to upset people, but I worry that I might be doing.

Other AS people will understand you, so please just go ahead and write - at least here you have someone to talk to who gets you.

    Hi Aoch,

As LongTallJo says, writing can be good for people with ASD. You can spend some time on getting things in the right order. When we talk we often struggle with getting the words in order as our ASD brains aren't so good with getting things out in the right order.

How are you Aoch? I haven't seen many posts from you recently. I've been away from the site too for a while as I have been too busy with other things.

Living with your family sounds difficult. Have you thought about living in a supported home or do you think that would be worse?

  • Write anyway. It will help you organise your thoughts and someone may be able to offer support or reassurance. You are not alone - there are likely to be many experiencing similar frustrations and joys whatever they are...
