If you are currently experiencing problems with a diagnosis or an assessment you might also find it helpful to look at the section of our website on diagnosis for children and adults. You'll find useful advice on the diagnosis proceedure and what to expect.

You may also want to read Lorna Wing's article about different diagnostic labels. This may be helpful when dealing with a term you were previously unaware of.

Our helpline is also available if you need to call - they are open from 10 am - 4 pm on 0808 800 4104. This number is free from landlines and most mobiles.

  • Hi, i’m not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this, but my name is Julie and i’m 18 years old. i’ve recently started to think that i might be autistic. I identify with many, but not all, of the symptoms of autism i’ve seen online and i’ve spent hours researching it. I never felt too different whilst growing up, i seemed to fit in well but had trouble keeping up with friendships. Now that i’m older i have no friends and have trouble keeping up conversation or being social at all. I don’t know where to start or what to do and I need some guidance. I feel like a diagnosis would help in making my life and the way i am make sense, but i can’t be sure if i have it and i don’t want to follow-up on this if i don’t. any advice? or symptoms not listed online to look out for?

  • Couldn't agree more, I'm experiencing the same issue, I'm concerned because I might get misdiagnosed. I want a clear yes or no but no one provided it for me yet.
