Talking to your GP about AS

I'll be seeing my doctor tomorrow about my AS but im a little worried about what to say?

Do I just talk about my anxiety and depression? Can they help me with my social skills/communication? I started having panic attacks aswell.

What will they offer me, such as medication? I don't really want to reply on any medication but will it help?

Can it get better?

Is it that you're seeking an asessment? If you are, you need to start by telling your Doctor what you think and why. The symptoms you describe are very familiar to me, they're quite common amongst us, so try to mention them all. They should be able to refer you for suitable assessment. I had to wait a year, but others have much shorter waits and I think it's just a geographical lottery.

There are no medications that can help with the ASD, it's a 'condition' not an illness, but if you're also feeling particularly down your Doctor might offer you some anti-depressant. I've never yet taken any medication that did me any good, but the diagnosis worked wonders. Go with whatever you feel that you need right now.

The ASD can't change, but the way that you feel about it certainly can!

    Good luck Smile
