I need help

Hi I don't know how this all works but I've got a 2year old daughter who does no talking only 2 things she says is duice (juice) and dad we have been told by speech to do makaton and she has taken to that fantastic we have noticed she is very baby like can still lay like a baby in my arms, but she is really hard to keep hold off when she is upset the strength in her well.  She is also getting really out of hand with slapping g pinching and biting to the point of drawing blood on her older sister but she is not starting to hit the youngest (8months old) and hitting the animals as well.  There is few other things but I don't no if to be worried I'm struggling so much I'm crying most days please help

  • Perhaps she is still a little jealous of the younger child. She wants to be your baby still, so lies in your arms like a baby. I had my two close together. When I fed the baby, the older one sat on the other side and I read to her, so that she didn't feel left out.

    It sounds like you are doing the right things in that your daughter has taken to Makaton really well.  That will help.  We all need to communicate to get our needs met and if we don't have many words, the only way left to communicate frustration is through our actions. It sounds as if that is what she is trying to do. The main NAS website has some great information on Challenging Behaviour (which is what her aggression is) and how to deal with it. 

    You might like to have a look at www.autism.org.uk/.../behaviour-guidelines.aspx as a goodplace to start, but at her age it is not at all unusual for children (whether autistic or not) to be aggressive with siblings. 

    Take deep breaths, decide how you want to handle it and try an approach. Keep going, you will get there. Smile
