Guys can you help me with something please?

I received a letter the other day for my son,its been sent to the Education Department then forwarded onto me and in bold it says (FOR INCLUSION IN EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT AS REQUIRED), then goes onto explain that my son has Hypercussis and has specail hearing aids now for noise reduction.

Anyway my questions are will the school now get funding for my son? and if not why have they sent it to the Education Department? Also what does the bold bit actually mean?

  • Thanks Seaofcalm, i think theyre class have some assessments comming up soon, i just wasnt sure what it meant as i am not sure whever school get funding for him.

@lelly - I've copied your post to its own thread community.autism.org.uk/.../adult-diagnosis-0

(Keeping discussions separate is useful but it isn't obvious how to start a new thread - you have to go to the main discussion forum page and then pick a topic area and then Start New Discussion.)

Hello mumofboys772, I can't say for sure, but from what you have mentioned it sounds like this letter is possibly informing you that your son has been given dispensation to wear his noise cancelling aids in an assessment setting. All sorts of allowances have to be applied for and agreed by the authority. Is he due to be taking any national standard assessments?

  • My son only recieved his Aspergers diagnosis just after his 18th Birthday, last November 2014 and Iam struggling with the diagnosis terribly.

My son was asked to leave sixth form last year, May 2014, since then he has been home. He will only apply for 1 job at a time and wait for the result of that before applying for another. He will only apply for jobs online. He does go and sign on at the job centre once a week. He has just had his heart broken for the first time. He has been diagnosed with depression this year, but has stopped taking his tablets. He buys cakes, biscuits and snacks on those all day. He will not make himself a sandwich. He does not shower everyday, sometimes he doesnt even leave his room all day. He doesnt shower for long periods of time.We are currently going through what i feel is an extreme fixation on computer game. He gets cross if he has to leave mid game and he gets cross when he is playing a group game online with other people and is asked to stop. I cannot get a 5 minute conversation out of him unless it is on his terms/when he wants to. He has signed up for college in September, but this fills me with fear and anxiety after all the school years that were fraught with problems. He has just got a tatoo on his chest, which i hate. He has been helping his nan and grandad get their new house shipshap by labouring as and when needed all be it reluctantly. He joined a gym and started going 2 or 3 times a week, but he will only go with his friend and that has dropped to once a week if at all. He has joined yoga classes with me, it was something he wanted to try and found he liked it, 3rd class this week!

Iam working a 40hour week, all the men in his life, his father, step father and grandad are no help or support to him or me, they all think the aspergers label is an excuse,  rubbish, nonsense,  wrong. He also gets compared frequently to another cousin who is younger than him but has more of an appetite for life, by family members and sometimes yes by me too.

Im at breaking point with him, this is breaking my heart. I don't know this mixed up bag of child/man person. What is normal 18 1/2 year old behaviour, what is being lazy and what is aspergers?
