School says to go via GP, GP says to go via school...

Hi all,

We're pretty certain our 6yr old son has Aperger's. His teacher agrees and says it's best to go through the GP for a diagnosis, but the GP has now told us to go via the school! What's the normal/best process? We're in Bristol if that's relevant.

Thanks

If he is generally OK but struggling at school then it's in the school's interest to get a diagnosis. If he is struggling outside school then it may be more in your interest to get a diagnosis and the GP may be the quickest route. Neither will want to spend money if they can avoid it!
