Hello my 4 soon to be 5 year old son recently had an annual review with his paediatrician. There have been concerns since he was 3 years old since he was in preschool. So since pre school he has been referred to and assessed by many professionals as at first he had a severe speech delay and recieved a years worth of speech therapy which helped and stopped just before he went into school this September 14'.
He was funded 13 hours by the government for one on one help with a lady specialised in learning disabilities and she helped him come on leaps and bounds. The help was rejected to carry on in reception at school and he is currently on school action plus and gets a little more time with his teachers but it is still not enough as my son learns well one to one rather than a group/class environment .
Back to the paediatrician appointment recently....she reviewed him as she has done twice before. There are concerns still as he is significantly delayed with his literacy he cannot read and is struggling to learn to read as he cannot blend his phonocs even though he knows te alphabet and how it is all seperatley said in phonics but doesn't understand how to blend...his writing isn't good at all and his spelling is bad he only knows how to spell his name. His social skills are different he is over excited sometimes and can be full on and other children can struggle to understand why he is like that...his spaceial awareness is bad and he still has gaps in his understanding his speech is fine now but we thought at one stage he could have mild autism or SPD last year which she went on to say he didn't have but this review she assessd him for longer and believea there are signs of very mild autism flagging up and she has referred him to two Austim clinicians...wondering of anyone knows what the precess is, how long will the referral roughly take, what will they do? As she says they will be able to label this.
makes me very nervous as I don't want anyone to treat my son any differently because if he doesn't deffinatley have autism its very mild it's only habits he has that make you look into it.
Any my advice and info woild be greatly appreciated
thank you
