How do you balance work and your child?

I find it increasingley difficult,my son is forever having meltdowns,i was working with sen children but going home then to my son it felt like i was working 24/7 no break,i was hardly eating, losing lots of weight and getting really depressed so i changed postiions, however this is just as stressful,i love working however i feel like i never get a break.

How do you all manage to balance both? or have you any tips on how i can balance both better?

  • Its very hard to go part time because of the work i am in to be honest, however i may persue a hoby away from home, sorry my b keeps sticking lol

  • Hi

Have you considered working Part Time? It's the only way I manage to work and look after my boys.

I now work from home also, so I can be there for them. Didn't want to let an employer down all the time as I was getting loads of phone calls to come and collect my sons from School with Migraines, nosebleeds, meltdowns and the like.

Having an outside interest is a real plus. The only thing that keeps me sane really, so I know how you feel.

Must admit I survive on little sleep now with their issues, so being home keeps me sane.

    Coogy

  • I did the full time mum bit until my youngest was established in school. Then I did just a few hours in term time until the youngest was 10. I then did part time work, until retirement, but that was a struggle for me, because of my own issues with colleagues. I have asd. I saw my children settled in school, while still being available to deal with their problems imediately after school, until secondary.

It is different for each of us. We needed the money, or I might have been better not working, though I did learn to cope in the end. Part time work gave me the time alone I needed to keep up with chores and recharge my batteries and be there to help my children with their issues.

Play it by ear and just do what you are comfortable with. There is more to life than the things money can buy.
