It's a common experience to have an unsympathetic dr. Rispiredone is commonly used for people experiencing psychosis. Though it can be used for extreem anxiety. I'd be glad i wasn't on it too. It is possible to find a dr that has all the qualities of a good dr and is interested in all area's of medicine. I always take a list of things in bullet form because i have communication problems e.t.c- so i can get a good consultation in. If you find it really difficult, aybe take somebody with you
I have tried talking about side effects to various gps. If the leaflet says a side effect is common, they say it wears off with time. If it is rare, then they do not believe you have it.
I was given
Risperodine once. I stopped sleeping completely and stopped taking it and went back to the gp with the leaflet and told him which reactions I had. He laughed and said that I probably did not need medication at that time, and I felt dismissed and left. As I walked around, at first I felt elated because he had said I did not need meds. Gradually, I remembered that I had had no sleep for 2 days and he had ignored the detail of side effects that I had painstakingly recorded and explained to him. He had just assumed that I did not want to take it.
After another miserable sleepless night, I rang the surgery and spoke to the duty dr and explained that I needed sleeping pills until the side effect wore off. As I had only had sleeping pills once before, many years earlier, I was allowed one small weak pack of tablets to help me over the problem.
This sort of thing always happens to me when I see a medical professional. I go when I am below par, and fail to get my point accross because I get diverted from my aim. I do not have the mental stamina to argue my case, when I am ill.
A. if you mean your on meds and your affraid it won't work- you could always discuss it with your G.P to see if your on the correct dose.
or
B. You think there is no point in going on meds, because you think it won't work, then see your G.P and discuss the different types of medications and any side effects they may have
or
C. your on meds-but it isn't working....not everybody can have meds. i can't. i suffer severe side effects. so have to do the best i can.
ALWAYS SEE YOUR G.P ABOUT ANY MEDICATION PROBLEMS/ADVICE.
