Son's MDA

Hi all

just looking for a bit of guidance really we had our sons MDA today and came back as no he's fine just has anger issues

  • There does seem to be a bit of a postcode lottery to these things. Compare your experience with Lincolnshire's Information for parents and carers, on Multi-Disciplinary Assessments partners.lincolnshire.gov.uk/.../3_Multidisciplinary_Assessment.pdf

This is very emphatic on the parent or carer's opportunities to be consulted during the process, who will be involved or consulted, notification timescales, - contrast that with your experience of your child just being called into a room with three adults, and getting that kind of answer.

You need to ask to see the procedure for MDAs and your rights to appeal against the decision or ask for a second opinion.

There is a NAS advice page http://www.autism.org.uk/23991 (or under - about autism - all about diagnosis - diagnosis: the process for children - getting a diagnosis). Also under NHS Choices www.nhs.uk/.../Diagnosis.aspx though this only briefly mentions Multidiciplinary Teams
