Are A.S.D diagnosis universal?

Hi all,

I have a question for you. Does anyone know if a diagnosis for Autistic Disorder that was obtained in Australia is valid in the U.K?

I have recently returned home from Oz with my family. My 2 boys have a diagnosis of Autistic Disorder. They were both born in Australia and recieved their diagnosis there.

We all know that A.S.D does not go away, however, everything I read leans towards the fact that a diagnosis has to be done through the NHS for it to be valid.

I'm confused!

Do I have to obtain a new diagnosis here in the U.K or is their current diagnosis valid?

    The disease is universally defined in the same way around the world - the triad of impairments, as they are known, is what defines the condition and this is standardised in the DSM manuals which have similar equivalent standards in Europe and elsewhere. I would not expect anyone in this country to query an Australian diagnosis.
