Need Help

Hello...

I am the mother of a forty five year old autistic woman, she desperately needs to see a dentist in my area,we live in Pennsylvania.I've made numerous calls in my area to dentists, explained to them she is autistic, many of them told me they never worked on autistic people,I took her to special smiles in my area years ago,the outcome wasn't good...she was fine with the first x ray of her teeth ,but wouldn't tolerate the inside x ray, where you have to bite down, they said she would have to be in a hospital setting to get her teeth taken care of.I called several dentists in my area and many of them had never worked with autistic adults. She is slowly losing her teeth. It's been a nightmare for me to find a dentist for her.She has medicare and many dentist don't accept her insurance. Her father passed away in July of this year, and I can't afford her dental care since his passing,I must use her medicare. This situation is sad and unfair.Does anyone know where to guide me to find a dentist who takes autistic adults on medicare ?

  • Hello Vera - I'm very sorry to hear of your daughter's predicament.   This site is UK-based so it's unlikely that posters will be able to help (altho you never know, I suppose Smile).  I have a friend with an autistic child in Penn so will ask her.  It may take a few days to get a reply. Maybe a US-based site would be more helpful, or if you have a social worker maybe they would know?  An autism charity may know?  Perhaps the Wrong Planet website would have info?
